Background
Wessel Hopman is a Master’s student in Medical Engineering with a focus on quantitative MRI, computational modeling, and machine learning for clinical imaging. He completed his BSc in Biomedical Engineering in November 2024 and continued directly into his MSc.

Before starting his graduation project in Utrecht, Wessel finished his internship at ETH Zürich on 3D two-pool bSSFP MRI simulations and subsequent parameter reconstruction to separate the two tissue pools. He also conducted research at the Maastricht University on mechanobiological modeling of vascular smooth-muscle-cell dynamics in the aortic wall, developing and validating computational models of cellular phenotype switching and matrix remodeling.

Wessel is currently completing his Master’s thesis within the Computational Imaging Group, where he works on predicting glioma contrast-enhancement using interpretable machine-learning methods combined with MR-STAT quantitative MRI. Supervised by Bas Schilder, Alessandro Sbrizzi and Nico van den Berg.
