Background
After studying Physics & Astronomy at Utrecht University, Carel van Leeuwen joined the 7 Tesla research group at the University Medical Center Utrecht during his master thesis, which concerned modelling of eddy currents due to insert gradient coils. Currently he is working as a PhD student under supervision of Alexander Raaijmakers in the M-cube project. His work involves simulating, designing and constructing antenna arrays for high-field MRI. In particular he focuses on the application of metamaterials to reduce SAR hotspots and on flexible antenna arrays.
